Located about 65 km from Pune near Bhor, Rohida Fort, also known as Vichitragad, is a lesser-known gem of the Sahyadris steeped in Maratha history. Originally built during the Yadava period, the fort was later fortified by Shivaji Maharaj, who recognized its strategic location. The fort offers majestic views of the surrounding valleys and nearby forts like Rajgad and Torna. As you climb past rock-cut steps and bastions, you’ll encounter well-preserved gates, cisterns, and shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and Hanuman. The fort’s historic charm combined with a relatively short and rewarding climb makes it perfect for a half-day trek with immersive storytelling and panoramic views.

Ambolitrails

Amboli is a tiny town in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district that sits at an elevation of 690 metres. The town is situated where the Sahyadri Ranges in the north and the Nilgiri Ranges in the south of the Western Ghats meet. Thus, this place has distinct biodiversity.

The hill station offers a numerous nature trails and waterfalls in addition to good weather. Various creatures can be found in Amboli, including the endemic Amboli tree frog, the Malabar Gliding Frog, the Malabar Pit Viper, and the Amboli Bush Frog. During the monsoon season, the local flora is at its peak and the lateritic plateau's that is the "sada" vegetation is a breathtaking sight.

We at Zenith Odysseys is planning for a 4 days Endeavour to Amboli from 15 August 2024 to 18 August 2024, leaving from Pune on 15 August 2024 after flag hoisting. Join us on this odyssey.

Raigad Test

The mountains have been an ever flowing source of energy to the human beings. The older generations used them as safe houses and the modern generations are using them as getaways from day today life. The mountains near the place where you have grown up are the most inviting and warm places, almost like second home. Or say a sanctuary. So, likewise, there is this one mountain close to my heart and also of utmost importance in Maratha History: Fort Raigad.

Raigad: The Capital fort of The Great Maratha King Shivaji Maharaj. This fort was selected by Maharaj himself looking at the geographical location. Hill standing tall at 845 Mtrs, is somewhat separated from the main mountain range is considered as the most secured.

On a clear day, one can see Rajgad, Torana and Lingana on east, Kokandiva on North, Vasota, Pratapgad and Makarandgad on South with Rivers Kaal and Gandhari flowing on Western side.

The Hill has cliffs on 3 sides and can be approached only by one side. Hence the Maratha Emperor chose this place as their throne.
